Giffordtown & District Annual Newsletter – ARTICLES WANTED

Last year saw the first edition of the annual newsletter come out. It was well received, but maybe a little too small! I'm looking for contributions for the second edition which I hope to come out just before Christmas. This time it will be in a larger format A4 size.

Here's some of the categories that you can help out with. Size doesn't matter. It can be a few lines, to as many as you like (within reason - no first novels).

General News & Events

Has anything been happening in and around your life that might be interesting, amusing, educational, a cautionary tale?

The Future

Not using a crystal ball, but is there anything planned that would be good to know about? Babies, weddings, retirement, local events, graduations, etc

Local History

Do you have specific knowledge about a landmark or other aspect of our community

Flash Fiction

Perhaps you want to have a go at being a story writer. Flash fiction is a very short story up to 500 words. Or maybe you have a poem in you, or limerick. Please share.

Kids Corner

Let's see what the younger people (under 18) in our community can do.

Suggestion Box

Anything you'd like to see in this newsletter

Gardening

Tips, tricks, photos of unusual vegetables, good crop, bad crop. New things tried

Cooking

No self-respecting newsletter would be complete without at least some cooking article. Favourite recipe - themed for Christmas, or not. Or anything related to food.

Maybe you've decided to go vegetarian, or other specific diet. Tell us why.

Tales from Work

Has anything happened in your work which was odd, uplifting or notable in any way?

Covid

Do you have a Covid related story to share?

Pictures

Any good photos of any subject.

Puzzles, Quizzes, Competition Ideas

Do you like making up things to tax the brain.

Jokes, Cartoons

Maybe you can draw a cartoon or you've made up a joke.

People

New to the area, who's left the area, any births, deaths, marriages, engagements, good deeds

Advertising

Any events, clubs, societies. Tell us what they do and when they meet etc. Maybe share a story.

DIY

Disaster or otherwise. Let us know what you've been up to

Holidays

Have you managed to get away at all for a short break, long break or in a motorhome perhaps?

Hobbies & Interests

People love to know others like to do in their spare time. Tell us a bit about what you do and why.

Soap Box

Perhaps you just want to let off steam about something. Speeding, the stink from the dump. Fife Council. The government, the opposition or just politics in general - local, national or global.

Wish List or Be Thankful

If you could make a wish, what would it be. If you'd like to be thankful for something, tell us what

What I Want

What would you like to see happen in your community? However, wild or woolly just let us know

Common Sense

Who does not love a good Elf 'n' Safety story? Seen or heard anything that just seems daft. Jobsworth - there's bound to be something interesting there. Wokery - it seems no one quite knows what to say or do that is acceptable nowadays. What does not make sense to you?

Like it Used to Be

A chance to pick up from times gone by. What has changed in the way things are done from when you were young?

My Favourite

What is your favourite... anything? Cake, car, restaurant, TV program, book, film etc.

Anything Else

The categories above were just to get the ball rolling with few ideas. You may want to put something in that does not fit into the categories above. That's fine. Put it in anyway.

If you do put something in, let me know if you want to have your name attached or prefer the 'name supplied' approach.

I would like to have some help putting this together, say another one or two people to help me decide what goes into the newsletter and how it should be laid out. If you would like to be on the editorial team, please let me know and it will be on a first come basis.

If we are overwhelmed with contributions for the newsletter, then we may think about another edition between now and next year.

If you’d like to contribute (or take part), send an email to giffordtownsecretary@gmail.com or drop a note into: Neil Brooks, Fairways, Main St, Giffordtown
