Giffordtown & District Community Council

Wind Turbine - Community Benefit Payment

Giffordtown & District Community Council are the beneficiaries of an annual payment from Fife Council. We received the first payment of £3336 in 2019 and thereafter should receive around £2500 every Spring. It is proportional to electricity generated and not a fixed amount. Covid 19 has delayed payment this year.

After the CC meeting in March, notices were displayed asking for ideas as to how to utilize this money for the benefit of the community as a whole. Three suggestions came forward. The CC is asking for your help in deciding which one we should progress.

Please vote for Option 1 or 2 below and deliver back to the Secretary (Neil Brooks – email: giffordtown secretary@gmail.com) at Fairways in time for the next meeting on 6th July. Email voting accepted. The proposal with the majority votes will be investigated further but may not go ahead if it is found to be unfeasible or too costly.

Option 1. Speed Reduction on B937:

The Speedwatch team started last year confirmed what we already know; vehicles speed on the B937. There have been a variety of proposals put forward to try and ‘automate’ the monitoring of the speed. The main suggestion at the moment is to try and find a method of capturing the necessary data so that the police can then play their part. A range of methods are possible and can be phased. Examples are:

· Flashing ‘Your Speed’ signs to act as a reminder. (Circa @£2000 – possibly need three)

· Average speed camera to act as a deterrent through fines etc. (Circa £20,000)

If you would like the CC to progress speed reduction please tick the box above.

Option 2. Path Upgrade from Charlottetown to Edentown:

The current path is inside the woods and is often overgrown with vegetation etc. making it difficult to use. The proposal is to upgrade the path to a similar standard to the one that was made from Edentown towards Ladybank. In 2017 the budget cost for that path was just over £12,000 and there was an award of £9000. If you would like the CC to progress the path upgrade please tick the box above.

Tree planting:

Increase the diversity of trees in the community. Find un-used areas of rural ground and plant trees. This suggestion is not part of the vote as there is a possibility of a grant available from the Woodland Trust which could be utilized providing the community supports the idea. Please indicate your thoughts below:

I support the idea of adding more trees to the community

I would be willing to get involved in organizing in some way

I would be willing to plant trees or other physical activity as required.

Note: Indicative costs have been shown, but these are only tentative and have not been formally quoted. Actual implementation cost may vary significantly.

It is not known/guaranteed that any awards or grants can be achieved for any of the above proposals.
