Poor old Kilwhiss road has suffered yet another blow.

We are all familiar with the damage to the road surface in certain sections caused by the numerous heavy vehicles. We also see the increasing damage done to the verges as these same heavy vehicles try and find a safe way to pass each other. The Community Council has been working hard with Fife Council to try and find a resolution.

Unfortunately, we now have some more damage - which is very disappointing as it appears on first inspection to be damage that has been wilful, but to keep an open mind, it could be curious animals.

We live in very turbulent times; people dying in their thousands, families unable to see loved ones, the economy in an extremely serious situation, unemployment ramping up. Against this backdrop,  unimaginable only a few months ago, we have all seen examples of humanity at its best. Our own small community has rallied and come together to support one another as best we can. It makes living here a joy.

That's why it is surprising to see that many of sapling trees that had been planted on the strip; by the community and for the benefit of the community (and the wildlife), have been destroyed. The attached picture shows an example of two of the saplings which look like they have been snapped in four places (I moved them to the road just to make the photo clearer). You can make your own assessment as to the cause. Five of the saplings planted have been left untouched. All of the tubes have been emptied and some knocked over. This is in fact the second time these trees have been damaged.  The first time was around 12th April when the tubes were all upended and nearly all of the saplings uprooted and scattered around the area, but not broken. On that occasion, they were replanted and continued to thrive.

It's bad enough that people come into our lovely part of the countryside and discard their litter,  as the litter picker teams who collect numerous bags of rubbish will testify. We now have what could well be some new kind of disregard for the good folks of Giffordtown & District.

All I can ask is that we, as a community, stay united and continue in whatever way possible to make this one of the best places to live in Fife.
