Landfill

Unfortunately, the smell continues to be a heaven burden on top of everything else. This is especially concerning for those in the community who already have underlying health conditions and in particular respiratory conditions. A spokesperson for FRS said,

“Please note that under the circumstances i.e. Covid-19, the scheduled meeting of 26 March will be postponed. However, I will provide updates in the interim. As it currently stands, all flanks have been capped, the piggyback liner is in place, all 13 gas wells have been installed and 40% of the crown has been capped. Our aim is to complete the capping as quickly as we can, but the potential impact of the Coronavirus is unknown at this point.” This is an improvement of 20% from the previous week. The revised enforcement notice of 13th of April is now just three weeks away.

All residents are reminded that if they do smell an offensive odour to call SEPA on 01592 776910. This works day or night. Even if you are using the A92 or A91 and only smell it briefly as you pass. SEPA also can accept reports of the smell online by going to www.sepa.org then ‘Report an environmental incident.’ More details are available on www.stopthestinkfife.com

VE Day 75

Giffordtown & District Community Council had arranged a commemorative ‘street party’ at the village hall on 9th May. The committee took the decision earlier this week to cancel the event. At the moment there are no plans to reschedule but this will be reviewed once we exit through the period of the virus.

Village Hall

Further to last week’s announcement that the Coffee and Chat event would be cancelled, the hall committee has reluctantly decided to cancel all future events until further notice.

Spring

It was noticed by a local beekeeper that the bees are starting to get very busy and bring back shopping baskets laden with pollen. The bees are fortunately a very democratic society and act as one for the good of the community. So they are not stockpiling, but just building up what they need for the summer to come. Perhaps there is something to learn from them.

Daffodils are unaware of the health and economic crisis we face and have stuck their glowing yellow faces into the sunshine and clearly have decided to KEEP CALM and CARRY ON. Perhaps there is something to learn from them.

Local gardeners in the community are acknowledge that a certain level of excitement is building as the weather gradually warms up and the prospect of sowing or planting seems to be just around the corner. Your reap what you sow. Perhaps there is something to learn from that.

Fiveways

Locals are reminded that the news Fiveways website has been launched. You can look online and learn a lot about what is going on. By becoming a member you can post and interact. It’s free of course. In these times of isolation, at least we can use technology to help out. The web address is www.thefivewayscommunity.com please visit, share, contribute.

Rainbow Challenge

A breath of fresh air. A local resident set a challenge for the community. Display a rainbow in your window. It can be of any design that you like. The challenge is to see how many you can spot as you take some exercise on your self-isolated walks. Remember to stay 2m apart of course
