These posts will be in the Fife Herald on Friday 20th:
Coronavirus
Giffordtown & District community has come together to support each other during this national emergency. Any person living in the area who is vulnerable will be able to reach out for the help they need. At the time of writing, restrictions have not been put in place, but there will probably come a time soon when people over a certain age will be ask to self isolate. Therefore, things like shopping or pet walking may be an issue. There may be shortages of certain food stuffs or other items. The Fiveways website will continue to post information and updates as they become available. See www.thefivewayscommunity.com. For anyone without access to a computer, then contact any one of the Community Councillors.
Landfill Site
The site operators have negotiated a revised date with SEPA of April 13th for capping to be complete on the full cell. Once again that comes with caveats for weather conditions. A spokesperson from FRS said:
“The east and south batters are complete, all 13 gas wells have been installed (these get connected once the crown is capped), the piggy back liner on the adjacent cell is also complete. Approximately 20% of the crown has been completed. It's only the capping of the crown that remains incomplete. The remainder of the works will take circa 3-4 weeks, but all weather dependent, so I can't provide a definitive end date”.
The smell has still been strong in many areas of the community this last week. Hopefully the above actions will see an end to the misery as summer approaches and we all want to be outside more. All residents are reminded that if they do smell an offensive odour to call SEPA on 01592 776910. This works day or night. Even if you are using the A92 or A91 and only smell it briefly as you pass. SEPA also can accept reports of the smell online by going to www.sepa.org then ‘Report an environmental incident.’
Giffordtown Village Hall
Given the Coronavirus spread, the Hall has decided to cancel the ‘Coffee & Chat’ mornings until further notice. We apologise for the inconvenience and realise that this was a fantastic opportunity for socialising and swapping of news. Hopefully we will all be back on track soon.
Roads
The various potholes have been reported via Fife online Roads defect system. The serious condition of the Kilwhiss Road, Q60 has now been reviewed and discussions are ongoing with the Road Dept. and the parties involved as to how to resolve this.
Willie Rennie, (MSP) has written to the Roads Department on behalf of the community asking that the section of road from the pump station at the park that joins up to the Kilwhiss road be adopted. This is due to the partial collapse of the road as a result of more frequent and heavier traffic usage.
